Saverah Fashion Weekend - 2013

From The Last Week Show

As some of you might have seen Saverah Fashion Weekend in London last week, which linked onto "Islamic Fashion". Rather than use the title Islamic Fashion show I prefer to call it a Fashion show inspired by Islamic theme. All the collections are great but some of them didn't comply with Islamic dressing code ~ indeed it is my personal opinion. Anyhow, it was exciting to be part of a group of fashion designers who are making their collections complementary to mainstream fashion in the traditionally western dominated fashion world.

Here are eye-catchers items from several designers (Chenille's Dubai based designer, Jeny Tjahyawati & Nuniek Mawardi Indonesia based designers, Sri Munawwarah & Neda Malaysian based designers & British base designers). Those items stick in my head easily even if you just looked at photo shot of catwalk images, the design borrowed from street or pop art to the 30's and oriental far east elements, which is suitable for the urban lifestyle .

I would love to talk on details the latest collection, but this month was pretty challenging. It's not very often that I sit down and do a spur of the moment blog post, shutting myself away and pretending I don't have to write to update my posting wasn't the reason, as everything has been so busy right now, I have to switch myself from blogger to designer n reorganize the webpage still in half way. Oops!

Colour & Trend Inspiration

Inspiration - Supermoon

Just 30 minutes pass midnight we were driving down the lane toward home. It was a beautiful night; I looked at the moon, it was casting a warm glow across the land, so quiet and peaceful. It was full and just came out from a big cloud where she was hiding for days. It made everything in the night lighter I could see so far it could have been twilight… hmm.. yea....twilight, definitely it was not daylight. The night sky was soft glowing bright blue. Wonder, is anybody out there weaving a hand to me? Well...... who knows, maybe someone or some Big-Thing sits on the moon looking down at all of His creation.

Even though, I m not a good writer but this tranquil night was inspired me.

Is a Secret being a Treasure of your Love?
Written by: Edrima W Hanson
Tuesday 23rd of July, 2013 ( 15 Ramadan 1434 AH)

The moon disappears behind the clouds.
And wind sweeps the story away,
The night, the world, the wind spin out their destiny.
Leave a secret that you keep inside.
So strong, so great.
It stabs my heart.
It traps inside my mind.
It haunts my sweet dream.
I do not see you, but love you blindly.
I love you because I know no other way.
Dies, the only one,
and I will die of love because I love you.
The light, the night, the sky were covered up
I made the wall of shadow draw back,
Beyond desire and act, I walk on
Return to the sea of silence.
In silence I come to see you
Only to see you, my love
It is I, my love, who knocks at your door.

What do you think of my poem? I don’t want to pretend that I am a writer I just like writing, sometimes I make a lot of mistakes on my writing, but mistakes couldn’t stop me, mistake is just another part of learning as long as we don’t repeat the same mistake.

Fashion Icon - Ziggy

Meet Ziggy at V&A

I’ve been in London for a couple days for a business trip, luckily everything ran smoothly, all jobs done… ! But still have an appointment not to be missed literally before heading north to return home.

Wandering around Marble Arch station, we decided to take the underground tube to Notting Hill Gate and used the circle line tube to Victoria station. Well..as usual it has been a third mistake I made. So..we took a District line to go back to South Kensington station. At 12:30 pm we arrived at V&A (Victoria & Albert Museum). After a long queue for the tickets, my appointment with Ziggy was confirmed at 13.45 pm.
Another way to wear the Black Jacket dress by Elsa Hanson.
Whilst we were waiting for the appointment we took a break and afternoon tea at the John Madejski Garden café inside V&A. Sitting on a garden bench with a cup of tea, the buttery scones and my favourite chocolate bar was so beautiful.
The atmosphere was spot on, this week is the most sunny we’ve had this year so far. The Sun is stronger by day and hanging around much longer. While I was enjoying my last piece of chocolate bar my mind was thinking of the month of Ramadhan, fasting will kick off next week.
Standing over 3.5 meters high is a contemporary twist on Canova’s carved marble figure sculpture by Georg Baselitz recently redisplayed in the John Madejski Garden. It has been created in response to Antonio Canova’s neoclassical sculpture 'The Three Graces' (1814-1817). Baselitz’s Untitled (2013)
After all…. Let’s have another bite of scone before meet Ziggy. That its’ a memoir of my trip to London, which I’ve fallen behind on posting.

Fashion & Life Style - Summer Abaya

Just Another Sunny Day

I am currently gazing out of my studio right now enjoying this sunny summer weather. Days like this make me feel so blessed after a long drawn out winter; it’s about time of the sun came out and to dress up with a summery bold floral pattern and contrasting colours, which are a great look at the moment and bang on trend. Going Back to the Roots.

Going Back to the Roots.

How could I not love it when it’s all about being with family & surrounded by people I grow up with, and most amazingly hot summer weather with flowery colourful dresses are always there.

Between Heritage & Tradition
While a lot of people’s favourite part of Southeast Asia is the food, naturally mine has to be the colourful traditional clothes, especially “Baju Kurung” (aka Abaya) with "SONGKET".

I love to share snapshot of camera capture a likeness of traditional street fashion in Indonesia & Malaysia.
A joyful faces after wedding party.. Dress (baju kurung & sarong made of Silungkang songket)

When gold was their heritage, red become tradition and embroidery is part of their life.

MEET SOME FRIENDS: By the afternoon, I was deep in the bright sun of Jakarta, the steamy weather was less delicious, it was 37 degree C. However, catching up with friends I didn’t meet for decades had kept me going. The ending story of “My Journey’s Tale” would inspire design of Dress & Code 24:31 product line.
